The
Altar Valley Alliance was formed 25 years ago by the ranchers and landowners in
the Altar Valley Water shed in reaction to the increasing erosion and
degradation of the watershed and range lands. The main wash is known as
the Brawley Wash. The wash runs from south to north from Sasabe to the
Santa Cruz River. There are 700,00 acres in the watershed. Members
of the Alliance include ranchers, Indian tribes, state and federal conservation
governments. Projects include rotational grazing, grassland seeding and
erosion control structures.
